Local trucking company in need of someone to come in and audit their processes and advise on best practices. Client will be transitioning business over to his son and wants all their ducks in a row beforehand.
Candidate must be experienced in all facets of small business management: accounting, customer service, HR and overall office management. MUST HAVE VERY STRONG QUICKBOOKS SKILLS.
Client expects this to take about 2 months on a part-time basis working about 20 hours/week between 8am-4pm Monday-Friday. Schedule is flexible and candidate will likely spend a few hours a day with owner, OM and their son (who handles most of the trucking operations).
1. Observe and review how they are currently doing everything. Suggest ways to improve processes.
2. Determine how to exactly define tasks (i.e. best days for A/P, A/R, etc.).
3. Develop a plan to move forward: what to do and when to do it all.
This is a big project for someone who really wants to jump in and get their hands dirty. The client started the business in 1991 and has been operating it with his wife as the Office Manager/Bookkeeper. Neither have formal training in small business operations and have been creating processes as they go. There are three different mindsets working at once and three different ways of doing things. Goal is to get one set way to do everything to effectively and cohesively move forward.
Incoming candidate will be working alongside owner, his wife and their son in answering phones, data entry, accounting, etc. to get a firm grasp on what they're doing now so they can accurately evaluate and suggest best practices.
Candidates need to be forewarned: the office is a disaster... Very tight quarters, kids toys everywhere, old furniture and equipment everywhere, files, paper and file boxes everywhere. This is quite a project for someone to really dig in and get their hands dirty in more ways than one. In addition to developing processes, they'd also like to move to a more paperless environment so hands-on office organization is a large aspect of the role.
